How UVC-LED Sterilization Works
Ultraviolet-C light at precisely tuned wavelengths disrupts the DNA and RNA of pathogens — rendering them unable to replicate. No chemicals. No residue. No resistance.
The Science
Light as a Weapon Against Pathogens
UVC light occupies the 200–280 nm range of the electromagnetic spectrum. At these wavelengths, photons carry enough energy to break the molecular bonds in nucleic acids — specifically the thymine dimers in DNA and uracil dimers in RNA.
When a pathogen absorbs a sufficient UVC dose (measured in mJ/cm²), its genetic material is irreparably damaged. The organism can no longer replicate and is effectively neutralized — without any chemical interaction.
Digilight's UVC-LED systems are engineered to deliver the precise wavelength (typically 265–275 nm, the peak germicidal range) and dose required for validated 4-log (99.99%) or greater reduction across target organisms.
